I AM A STRANGER HERE MYSELF (SHADES OF GREY)

A continuation of the work Without a Cause (Tomas). The title alludes to a quote from director Nicholas Ray (Rebel Without a Cause), an attempt by Ray to describe himself and his relationship with the »outcasts«, which he often portrays. It becomes a visual study of an alternative music/hardcore-scen – to some parts an extreme homosocial masculine environment with little space for different gender identities. The photographic suite consists of band t-shirts at various stages of washed black cotton and by placing them next to each other, they form a cinema curtain which borrows its iconography/mysticism from early video pioneers such as Kenneth Anger, Harry Everett Smith and the occultist Aleister Crowley.
