¡VIVA REVOLUCION! (KEVIN)
2005
2-channel DVD-installation / A Queer was Here, Stockholm
Copenhagen Queer Festival, Copenhagen
»Gay boy, gay boy, what´s wrong with you?
You used to be a straight boy, now you are just a gay boy,
who doesn´t have a fucking clue.«
I was invited to do a show during Gay Pride in Stockholm. I am critical of Pride as a concept and decided to raise questions concerning the arrangement. I invited the band ¡Viva Revolucion! and let them perform the song Gay Boy. It's criticizes the stereotyped, commercialized mainstream idea of the gay man. With the singer of the band I conducted six monologues. They contain a mix of extremely private confessions, love stories, accusations and mainly handles the notion of being an outsider - as an immigrant, a gay man and a man of color. But somehow when trying so hard to be alternative - you run a risk of almost becoming a cliché yourself. While the bands performance was projected in scale 1:1, the monologues were shown separately in a more private setting.
